Buddy Daddies - The New Spy X Family??

Spy X Family has won over hearts across the globe, but a new show has come out with a similar feel. Buddy Daddies premiered on January 7, 2023. The show revolves around a family of 3, all of whom are not related to eachother. The "parents," Kazuki Kurusu and Rei Suwa, are professional assassins and their "daughter", Miri Unasaka, was abandoned by her mother and was on the search for her biological father. In the first episode, Kazuki and Rei are tasked with assassinating Miri's biological father, who happens to be a human trafficker. Kazuki ends up running into Miri and she ends up blowing their cover. Miri's biological father ends up taking Miri as a hostage and Kazuki and convinces Miri (who has never met her father) that he is her real father. Miri then leaps into Kazuki's arms and gives Rei a window of opportunity to kill the trafficker. Although they were able to complete their job, they now found themselves with an even more daunting task: fatherhood.

Buddy Daddies has a familiar feel to that of Spy X Family, yet refreshing at the same time. Although, Miri does not have the sam mind reading abilities as Anya Forger, she is just as adorable. And instead of two parents hiding their identies from one another, they are shielding their new daughter from the dirty truth of their profession. The show itself is funny and heartwarming, but whether or not it can free itself from the giant shadow that Spy X Family casts is yet to be seen. So, if you enjoyed Spy X Family, this show may be right up your alley!
