It’s Snappin’ Time

Hey there Baka Squad,

Favine coming at you once again to talk about something random. This time we go mobile with the 2022 Mobile game of the year, MARVEL SNAP.

The game, from Nuverse, Second Dinner, and Marvel Entertainment, lets players from around the world experience fun game play as they build a 12 card deck with some of their favorite Marvel heroes and Villains, as you try to snatch away Cosmic cubes or cubes, from your opponent. Each win netting you 1,2,4, or 8 cubes as you make your way up the running system.

Some of us here at The Baka Boys have been playing it since the game left beta, and we've been having fun making decks, sharing are guys, and complaining about our losses and how Captain Marvel never moves when I need her to.

With monthly seasons and news cards dropping monthing, the game has been a joy for a comic book fan like myself. Nothing is better than one of the boys saying how they pulled Cloak or Dagger then quickly saying they never heard of them and now I get to dump years of knowledge on them. Anything I don’t know, I point them to Comic’s Explain (You my boy Rob.)

Now, I can hear you say “Shut up and get back to the mobile game you baka.” So let's do that.

The game basically has the higher total score at 2 of the 3 locations and you win cubes. You have 6 turns to do so. Easy? No, cards not only have an energy cost and power (The number used to score points at a location.) But they also have abilities. Some cards buff other cards, some get buff if certain action happens, and some debuff. You even have cards that have negative power and fly to your opponent's side of the field, like some kind of heat seeking hate machine.

But all these factors together make for a very complicated system. You only have room for 12 cards and you want your deck to have synergy. Do you play a discard deck and beef up the cute baby Morbius card you got or are you going to play a death deck and drop Mistress Death for free on turn 5. These are the things to think about when building a deck to rank up with. Personally I would love to stomp everyone with my 90’s X-Men the Animated Series deck, but it does not really flow the way you want it. Maybe I'll have a better chance with a West Coast Avengers deck.

My overall take on the game, it’s fun. I love card games, and love the aspect of being able to feel competitive in said card game. Granted, it’s not perfect. Over-priced bundles and a system of getting new cards that can drive you crazy, mainly if you are one card away from being able to play that fun deck you have been looking at.

Still, nothing hits better than a Wong are a Luke's bar and you Have Iceman and Scorpion in hand. Or you set up the Wong/Mystique, it’s turn 5 your opponent has a full board and you have Gambit and Odin in hand. Chiefs Kiss moment.
