Japan Academy Film Prizes: 'Godzilla Minus One' and The Boy and the Heron Wins!

At the 47th Japan Academy Film Prizes, held in Tokyo's Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa, "Godzilla Minus One" clinched the Picture of the Year title, while Hayao Miyazaki's "The Boy and the Heron" secured Animation of the Year. "Godzilla Minus One" also triumphed in several other categories, including Best Screenplay, Best Supporting Actress, Best Lighting, Best Sound Recording, and Best Editing.

The film "Blue Giant" was honored with the Best Music award. Nanoka Hara was recognized as Newcomer of the Year for her role in "Do Not Say Mystery." Posthumous Chairman's Special Awards were granted to the late composer Ryuichi Sakamoto and the late producer Shuji Abe. Actor Yuki Yamada won the Popularity Award, while Tokyo Laboratory, which ceased operations after 68 years, received a Special Award for its contributions to anime.

Other nominated films for Animation of the Year included "Kitarō Birth: The Mystery of Gegege," "Totto-Chan: The Little Girl at the Window," "Detective Conan: Iron Submarine," and "Blue Giant." Eligible films premiered in Japan between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2023.

Japan continues to make waves in the entertainment industry, marking a historic streak of victories that expand its influence globally.
