First Slam Dunk Reaches 9th in Top-Grossing Anime Films!

The First Slam Dunk has surpassed Weathering With You, the BEST anime movie of all time!

The highly anticipated anime film adaptation of Takehiko Inoue's Slam Dunk basketball manga has achieved remarkable success in Japan. With a current box office revenue of 14.33 billion yen (approximately US$102.1 million), it has exceeded the lifetime earnings of Makoto Shinkai's Weathering With You film.

The First Slam Dunk now holds the 15th position among Japan's highest-grossing films and ranks as the ninth highest-earning anime film in the country. During its opening weekend, the film claimed the top spot at the box office, selling 847,000 tickets and earning 1,295,808,780 yen (about US$9.50 million).

It further garnered accolades, winning the Animation of the Year award at the 46th Japan Academy Film Prizes. Toshiyuki Matsui, the film's producer, was also honored with the general award at the 42nd annual Fujimoto Awards presented by the Film Theater Culture Association. Exciting news awaits international fans as GKIDS plans to release The First Slam Dunk in the United States and Canada this summer, offering both an English dubbed version and the original Japanese audio with English subtitles.
